And yes there is a drug which can slow down or in some circumsances cure the disease.
No, in England you can't have the drug if only one eye is affected.
Yes, Mr. Turner is now blind in one eye, thanks to Socialized medicine.

The British government is in the business of creating half-sighted citizens, for as long as they continue to have sight in one eye, unless of course the disease strikes the other eye also at a later date.
