Legislative Draft

The time for a Legislative Draft has arrived. Not because the people of this Nation are too stupid to vote intelligently (it is a possibility though, particularly the dweeb from Los Angeles RA4T)
No, the reason is because we must do away with the concept of Professional Politicians. Those whose only desire and entire lives are taken up by the thought of getting to the State Capitol, or the Nations Capitol.
The job which comes with all the benefits (for life in most cases.)

The idea is thus: (in the rough - please add anythnig that makes sense if it follows the concept)

1} A draft is held every year six months before enstatement to the legislature, from the available pool of registered voters.

2} The number of draftees is padded above the number required, to allow for attrition due to mitigating circumstances (must be a severe hardship or someone is drafted who cannot meet minimum criteria. Which suggests some form of qualifying benchmarks to do the business of geoverment.

3} Those drafted and chosen will serve for one year and one year only, they will be paid well, but they will accrue no benefits beyond their term in office.
i.e. health benefits only while in office, no paid vacation and a minimum of sick leave.

4} After serving they are then disqualified for the rest of their life serving in state or federal government again, ever!

5} After serving they are guaranteed their old job back, no penalties allowed for lost time.

6} Any person caught in the act or action of using his or her office for personal gain will serve a minimum of five years in prison, even if they have to build the prison to house themselves in with their own hands.

7} All legislators to be held accountable for their actions while in office, crimes committed, will be crimes prosecuted, without fail.
